On Thursday, Sen. Debbie Stabinow of Michigan introduced the Medicare at 55 Act, which will permit people of ages between 55 and 64 to buy into Medicare. As this would be a step towards Medicare for all, I think this is a great idea. Most people who have Medicare are happy with it. And it appears to be a more cost-effective way to provide care than through traditional insurance. The bill has several cosponsors, all Democrats.
I am not sure what chances this bill has of becoming law. But since the failure of the Republican attempts at passing their healthcare law, we have heard chatter about some Republicans being open to bipartisan negotiation.
Please call your senators and ask them to support this endeavor!
