As of today, a multitude of services the Federal Government provides have been shutdown due to the administration's demand that a government funding bill include funding for a border wall. The Trump administration is in effect holding over 800,000 government workers' salaries hostage and has also had ripple effects to other government services such as our National Parks and Smithsonian museums to name just a few. The shutdown has not only led to financial strife for non-partisan government employees, but has also led a loss of revenue for the Federal government itself as income generators from tourism such as our National museums and parks are currently shutdown. This is tantamount to holding employees hostage for a petulant request to build an ineffective border wall with our southern neighbors. On 01/03/18, the new Democratically controlled House passed a comprehensive funding package to end the shutdown, yet the Republican controlled Senate has refused to even put the bill up for a vote. If you consider the administration's current ultimatum for border wall funding preposterous and out of sync with reality, and/or if you know people who are being directly affected by the this shutdown and wish to make your opinion heard, contact your Senator and let them know that you would like the Senate to bring H.R.21 - Making appropriations for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2019, and for other purposes to a vote and to vote YES!
